Sir Alex Ferguson to be handed significant Manchester United funds for summer signings

Sir Alex will receive significant backing in the transfer market this summerReports from Manchester and London are suggesting that Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson will be handed a “significant” transfer kitty for the summer, whether they produce any silverware this season or not.

The reports come after what has been a money laden January transfer window that saw the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea involved in record breaking transfer deals for players like Andy Carroll, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez. With Manchester United fans missing out yet again on some big names to lighten up their year they can now rest assured that some big names are likely to join the Old Trafford club after this season comes to an end.

Just how much money Ferguson will have to spend on who he believes can strengthen the squad remains fuzzy although one can assume that with most top class talent costing upwards of £25 million, that the figure will be somewhat above that, there are also records showing that Manchester United’s accounts, despite obvious debt repayments, are looking healthy enough to launch a £100m attack on the player market.

Which players Manchester United will see as players that can add something to a unit already sitting pretty at the top of the Premiership is another big question but if rumours are to be believed then it could be that the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Alexis Sanchez and Marten Stekelenburg could be playing Premiership football from next season.

Despite leading the Premiership, there are some fans critical that the position they hold is because of other teams playing much more poorly than United and they will see this summer as a major focal point for replenishing old legs such as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville who can now only pick up a handful of games and with the latter announcing his retirement earlier this month.

Rumours have also suggested that United’s predicted delve into the summer transfer window is in part the result of the Wayne Rooney contract saga in November last year where the forward infamously questioned Manchester United’s ambition for the future.

As mentioned, with United leading the race and an unprecedented second treble still possible, their rivals will need to do something soon if they want to compete against a Red Devil’s side that are perhaps playing poorly yet still producing the goods.
