Judd Trump is the first man in action out of these three as he takes on Dominic Dale on Tuesday in a match that the former should be winning comfortably.

When at his best, Trump is one of the best of the business and if he does start well, then he should breeze to victory here.

However, as he is only 23-years-old, the former world number one isn’t quite the complete package yet and for all his talent, he has the tendency to go missing in a match and it wouldn’t be the biggest shock if he was knocked-out of the first round.

Dale will know that and has to try and get on top of Trump from the off, piling the pressure on the favourite. He is out at 5/1 to win here, so is the big underdog. Whichever player can take the first few frames is likely to build the confidence and momentum to reach the second round.

Later on Tuesday, the world number one – Mark Selby – is in action as he takes on Matthew Selt.

Selby has been the best player in snooker over the last twelve months as he has claimed the UK Championships and the Masters, so does come here in excellent form.

In contrast to Trump, Selby is a consistent player that many are expecting to ease through to the final stages, but he has to remain focused as Selt is sure to up for this clash as it is his chance to show the sport what he is capable of.

The man from Leicester is being offered at 1/8 to make it through to the second round, which makes him the red-hot favourite.

With the knowhow Selby has in big matches and the snooker he has been playing recently, he should enjoy this first round clash.

On Wednesday, Neil Robertson locks horns with Robert Milkins and of course, the Australian is the big favourite to come out on top here at 1/5.

Robertson has won at the Crucible back in 2010 and made the quarter-finals last year, so he knows what the World Championships are all about.

Milkins couldn’t have got a much tougher tie in this first round, but the pressure is off him somewhat as nothing is expected.

The 37-year-old is experienced and has beaten some of the top players in the past, but he might have to produce the best performance of his career to win here. He is at 9/2 in this one.

Robertson has won the China Open this campaign and reached three finals, so he has been one of the top players in snooker over recent months.

With these three players in action, we are all set for a cracking couple of days at the Crucible in Sheffield.
