O’Sullivan has had a long spell away from the table, not too many people are surprised to see him in the final as he is one of the most talented players to even play the sport, but you would have got long odds on Hawkins reaching the final as before this year, he had never made it past the second round at the World Championships.
The Rocket beat Judd Trump in the previous round in what was an enthralling tactical battle between two exciting players.
The four-time World Champion eventually showed his class and knowhow in this competition though as he took the match by 17 frames to eleven.
As he is in such fine form, it is no surprise to see the man from Essex as the big favourite to take this clash as you can back him at 1/7 to make it five world titles this year.
O’Sullivan doesn’t seem to be enjoying the media side of the sport right now and you never quite know what he is going to say in his interviews, but out on the table, he looks as comfortable as ever and should win this final comfortably.
Once again, his experience at this stage of the tournament could be key here as he knows what it takes to come out on top and is likely to take his chances when the pressure is on.
As for Hawkins, as mentioned, it is a bit of a shock to see him playing in a World Championship final, especially when you consider the big name players that have been knocked-out of the competition.
Now he is here though, the Englishman needs to try and work out a way to beat one of the best in the business, which is of course going to be tough.
In his semi-final against Ricky Walden, Hawkins was 12-8 down and looking as though it was going to be tough for him to progress, but he clinched nine of the next twelve frames to win the match 17-14, so he showed plenty of character.
He is the big underdog here though and not many experts are giving him much of a chance of beating O’Sullivan, but you can back Hawkins at 6/1 to come out on top in this final.
It is undoubtedly the biggest moment of his career and the world number 13 has to play his best snooker to have any chance of winning here. He has to pot balls when the pressure is on and keep O’Sullivan’s time at the table down to a minimum.
We are all set for a superb clash and although Ronnie O’Sullivan is the huge favourite to take the spoils, we have already seen that Barry Hawkins is not a man to be written off here at the Crucible.
Bring on the action.
