Southampton FC striker insists automatic promotion best achievement of career
Southampton FC forward Rickie Lambert has told of his pleasure at gaining automatic promotion to the Championship despite the Saints not having fully qualified for the position yet.
Although it is highly likely that Southampton will win promotion automatically, there is still one game to go but Huddersfield have a far inferior goal difference to the south coast club meaning only freak results could leave Southampton stunned.
Talking to BBC’s Radio Solent Lambert said.
“It means so much and I was a bit emotional at the end, it’s the best achievement of my career by far and it’s brilliant.”
The South coast striker added.
“It was disappointing to not get close last season but I was confident we could do it this year and I can’t wait now. I want to prove myself and I’ll be raring to go come next season.”
