Spurs chasing Spanish giant

Redknapp is keen to land another strikerTottenham boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly set to reignite his interest in Athletic Bilbao star Fernando Llorente as he strives to boost his attacking options.

The 64-year-old tried all summer long to bring in a permanent solution to his striking problems eventually signing Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City after missing out on top target Internacional’s Leandro Damiao.

However it looks like Adebayor’s stay at White Hart Lane will be a fleeting one with the Togo forward expected to return to the Etihad Stadium in the summer and Redknapp has identified Llorente as his replacement.

The 26-year-old – known as ‘The Lion King’ in Spain – was a target for Spurs during pre-season but chose to stay at the San Mames despite preliminary talks taking place between the two clubs.

It’s now thought the North London side are prepared to go back in for Llorente after the Spanish international started the season in red hot form scoring six goals in 11 games.

Standing at  6ft 5in the striker would give Redknapp the aerial threat he is desperate to add to his side although he is likely to face stiff competition for his signature.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are also interested in the World Cup winner who has 18-months left on his contract at Bilbao and Spurs face a battle to secure Llorente’s services.
