Tottenham are preparing a bid for Marseille striker Loic Remy despite Jermaine Defoe’s insistence that he won’t be leaving the club in the transfer window.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has made no secret of the fact that he want’s to boost his striking options and is reportedly weighing up a move for the prolific Remy. The 25-year-old, who is capable of playing out wide of through the centre, has scored for fun in Ligue 1 in the past four years and has bagged 15 goals already this season.
With the club currently embroiled in a surprise challenge for the Premier League title Redknapp wants to ensure he has enough firepower to continue their challenge at the business end of the table. The 64-year-old knows Remy won’t come cheap but is willing to spend around £20 million on the French international to guarantee his side remain in the title race.
However it’s thought the Marseille man won’t be signed as a replacement for Defoe after the striker was linked with a move away to rivals Liverpool. Rumours that the 29-year-old wanted to leave White Hart Lane have intensified during January with reports indicating that Red boss Kenny Dalglish was preparing a £16 million bid.
The striker swiftly quashed such gossip reaffirming his desire to stay and fight for his place in North London after seeing his first team chances blocked by Emmanuel Adebayor. He could be set for an even bigger battle should Tottenham bring in Remy before the transfer deadline.
