Amidst rumoured interest on behalf of Liverpool, it seems Tottenham Hotspur are now looking to spoil any plans that the Merseysiders may have and hijack a bid for Seydou Keita.
The Barcelona middleman has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou in recent months and it appears that a departure may come to fruition this summer.
Keita has fallen out of favour with the Champions League title holders and has only managed to make 16 starts across all competitions this season, instead being limited to mostly substitute appearances.
Despite his age, the 32 year-old would undoubtedly contribute a wealth of experience to Harry Redknapp’s side, should he be given the opportunity to feature as part of a starting line-up once more.
Spurs could see a number of midfield figures exit the club at the end of this campaign with Niko Kranjcar, Steven Pienaar, David Bentley and most importantly Luka Modric all being associated with transfers elsewhere.
Speaking back in February, Keita stated in an interview with Talksport: “A challenge elsewhere would appeal to me”.
The veteran midfielder added: “We will wait until the end of the season to see what happens. I love Barcelona, it is difficult to find a better team than them, but I am ambitious and want to play football every week.”
Keita is keen to feature in the first XI of a team and it doesn’t appear as if he’s likely to do that with Barça, regardless of how many trophies he may win.
Given his age, Keita wouldn’t be expected to carry a price-tag of more than £5m and could ultimately prove a great bargain for the North London outfit.
