Spurs to raid rivals Arsenal for Marouane Chamakh

Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch an astonishing rain on North London neighbours Arsenal for striker Marouane Chamakh according to the Metro.

Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to reinforce his flimsy attack with only Jermaine Defoe and youngster Harry Kane to choose from and has reportedly enquired about a loan deal for the Moroccan international.

The Portuguese tactician is exploring his options after a deal for Emmanuel Adebayor was put on ice after the Manchester City forward reportedly clashed with his present employers.

Interest in in Leandro Damiao is also wavering due to Internacional’s asking price and the Brazilian international’s desire to play for a club in the Champions League.

That has left Villas-Boas looking at Chamakh who has also courted interest from Everton, Italian giants Fiorentina and several clubs from Spain during the summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to offload the 28-year-old frontman just two years after signing him from French club Bordeaux on a free transfer.

Despite being one of the most sought after players in Europe in the summer of 2009, with Wenger beating Liverpool to his signature, Chamakh has struggled to cement a first team spot at the Emirates Stadium.

He is now well down the pecking order  following the arrival of Oliver Giroud and Lukas Podoloski last month and will be sold at the first opportunity.

However, Spurs are reluctant to buy the player outright preferring to broker a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move should turn out to be a success at White Hart Lane.

One major obstacle that could scupper a potential deal is Chamakh’s £60,000-a-week wages although that hasn’t put Villas-Boas off making a tentative approach.

The former Chelsea coach is still hopeful of pulling off a deal for Adebayor before the transfer window closes in two weeks.
