Talks between Arsenal and Barcelona are at stalemate with neither club being able to agree on a fee or a player that can be used as part exchange for club captain Cesc Fabregas.
Speculation had been high regarding a cash only payment of £35m with Arsenal only prepared to accept offer at and above that of £40m however with Barcelona short of cash and having not yet sold any of their fringe players the Spanish giants are considering a cash value of £30m plus a player.
Arsenal are very keen to land Thiago Alcantara with whom they have been interested for some time, it was only last month that there were reports the Spanish youngster could be on his way to the Premiership in a £20m move, however Barcelona were quick to tie him down to a new two year extension on his contract and include a buy-out clause close to £80m.
The stumbling block currently sees Arsenal wanting at least £30m in cash plus Alcantara on top for Cesc Fabregas however Barcelona will not to face the wrath of the fans by simply handing over one of their future stars to make up a deal to bring Fabregas to the Nou Camp and would rather offer £30m plus a different player.
Arsenal, quite rightly are playing hardball, Fabregas has a long term contract, as does Alcantara, and with the situation currently as it is, Barcelona will have to be much more flexible if they truly want the Arsenal captain back with them.
