Liverpool FC midfielder Steven Gerrard is expected to start against Manchester United at the weekend with manager Kenny Dalglish adding that Gerrard’s return to fitness will strengthen the side.
The Liverpool and England midfielder has been out of action after suffering a groin injury almost six months ago. Whilst he made a few appearances as substitute for the Anfield side with Dalglish carefully planning the 31 year old’s return and what a return it is to possibly be facing Liverpool’s arch enemy Manchester United in the Premiership at Anfield.
Dalglish made numerous midfield purchases over the summer, with some suggesting that the acquisitions may be a back-up if Gerrard fails to find his real form. Dalglish though now feels that with the return of Gerrard, the squad is now so much stronger.
“A fit Steven Gerrard strengthens this football club, no question. If you have Steven in your squad, it’s going to raise the profile and standard, we want to have a really strong squad, and him being in it makes it that much stronger.”
Manchester United may also have some good news on the horizon with the return to fitness of Nemanja Vidic plus the quick recovery of young Chris Smalling.
