Stewart Downing wants Liverpool to entertain

Stewart Downing is pleased that Liverpool are able to entertain the fansLiverpool FC winger Stewart Downing has expressed his delight at how the Liverpool side have entertained in the early part of the season but suggests their form must continue throughout the whole season if they are to be successful.

Liverpool have picked up 13 points from the opening seven games but what may be concerning is that the Anfield side have lost two of their four away games, one win coming against an Arsenal side lacking in confidence and perhaps the result of a few dubious decisions.

“It’s good to see the fans are enjoying watching the team play and the way we’re trying to play, we’re trying our best for them because they deserve it. I think fans watch football to be entertained. They want to see goals and forward players attacking. It’s nice when you can do that.”

The Liverpool winger, who was talking to LFC Magazine added:

“Some managers obviously don’t want a game to be too open, but from a fans’ point of view, players are there to entertain and do well. I think, particularly at home, we have done that this season. Our football has been good and long may it continue.”

The side have been creating chances however and Downing feels that these chances could soon turn into a rout should they net them.

“We have been creating chances. I think there will be a day soon when we put all of them away and we’ll have a big win against somebody. It’s been a decent start to the season. But it’s still early yet, we know it’s not about doing it over six or seven games, it’s about doing it for the whole season. If we all continue to work hard, there’s no reason why we can’t be successful.”

Liverpool return from the international break to face an in form Manchester United side that currently lead the Premiership title race, having scored 24 goals in their seven games, including 8 against Arsenal.
