Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has revealed he is keen to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window; however he will not break Stoke’s wage structure to do so.
Apart from the signings of former England internationals Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson on free transfers, the Potters have yet to bring in a big summer signing. Speculation has linked the club with players such as: Joey Barton, Peter Crouch and Shaun Wright-Phillips, whilst a deal for Carlton Cole broke down due to wage demands. Despite the need to sign players before next week’s deadline, Pulis has refused to bring players in for extravagant prices and wages.
“I think everybody knows we have to bring players in – I don’t think there is any question from the top of the football club right down,” said Pulis.
“But it is about making sure we do it the way we do it as a football club – that is very important for us.
“We’ll do our business the way we do – we will be open and honest with the clubs we are dealing with, and once we’ve done those deals, we’ll let you all know. We are hoping to bring some in if we can.
“We’ve got a wage structure that we want to keep to. We miss out on deals, and we have to be big enough to accept that.
