Sunderland and Everton to compete for Manchester United defender’s signature

Jonny Evans could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summerManchester United’s Jonny Evans could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer with both Sunderland and Everton reported to be interested in acquiring his services.

The 23 year old Northern Ireland international has not had the best of seasons for the club and has seen his position taken over by the more composed Chris Smalling. With Sir Alex Ferguson looking to reshuffle the squad this season Jonny Evans could be the first United player to leave.

Evans has enjoyed spells at Sunderland in the past when on loan during 2007-2008 where he picked up 33 appearances so a return to the Black Cats is possibly more favoured than joining Everton. However, with United’s apparent interest in Everton’s Jack Rodwell, Evans could be used as a makeweight in any possible deal for the young midfielder.

Bolton’s Gary Cahill is also a player that remains of interest to Manchester United and the Old Trafford team may feel a swap plus cash deal including Evans could be something they would be prepared to look into should Sir Alex’s interest in Rodwell diminish due to a rumoured asking price of £25m.
