News from Belgium has suggested that both Sunderland and Newcastle are looking to prise Chelsea and Real Madrid target Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.
The player has been the subject of mass speculation over the last 12 months and it seems the two Premiership clubs are looking to take a chance on the 17 year old. For Lukaku it may be a smart move to join either Sunderland or Newcastle, teams that will surely be able to offer him more game time than that of the frequently named “bigger clubs”.
Whilst Chelsea look to be in a period where they will need to bring in more youngsters to bridge the age gap the Stamford Bridge club currently have, they could see Lukaku as a long term replacement for the possible departure of Didier Drogba.
Real Madrid on the other hand have more strikers than the US army have jets but always seem to be interested in the latest player who happens to be under the age of 18.
Financially both Newcastle United and Sunderland have the funds to launch a serious bid for the teenager after the respective sales of Andy Carroll to Liverpool, and of course Darren Bent to Aston Villa in a move worth a reported £18m.
With Lukaku still at a tender age, the bigger clubs may see it as a financial risk to purchase him whilst untested in the Premiership meaning a move to either North East clubs could be highly likely.
