Sunderland in pole to land Manchester United defender

Manchester United's Wes Brown is looking for a longer term dealReports from the North East have suggested that Steve Bruce’s Sunderland are to bid for Manchester United’s long serving defender Wes Brown.

The 31 year old has picked up over 200 appearances for the Old Trafford club and 23 caps at international level for England but sources have suggested that the defender, who can play both centre and right back is looking for more first team football and a longer term contract.

That has alerted the likes of Steve Bruce who will be able to offer Brown a long term solution in the summer. With Manchester United linked with other Premiership defenders like Gary Cahill of Bolton, and with Rafael starting to make a real mark for the club, Brown also feels he is not getting the chances he used to.

Sunderland will not be held to ransom either and will be able to purchase the experienced defender for around £2.5m should Sir Alex Ferguson decide it is time Wes Brown moved on.
