Sunderland in the hunt for Manchester City hitman

Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, is apparently looking to bring Manchester City striker, Roque Santa Cruz, out of the cold and end his torment at the Etihad Stadium.

The Paraguayan international has endured a torrid time with the Manchester outfit since his £18m move two years ago, and has been linked with a move away from the club for some time.

Despite signing youngster Connor Wickham from Ipswich, Bruce is looking for a more experienced head to partner Asamoah Gyan on the frontline, and sees Santa Cruz as just that.

The 30 year-old has started only eight games for the Citizens and could be available for a nominal fee as City look to clear their wage bill of unwanted talent.

The Black Cats will face competition from Celtic, as well as Spanish sides, Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis for the forward’s signature.
