It’s understood that Steve Bruce is ready to smash the club’s transfer record and make a move for Bundesliga sensation, Papiss Demba Cisse.
The Sunderland manager has been linked with a move for a striker for some time now, and the need was only too evident on Saturday, as the Black Cats played out to a 0-0 draw against Premier League new boys, Swansea City.
Cisse has scored 32 goals in 51 appearances for Freiburg, a prolific record by any standards.
Bruce is also planning to take another striker on loan from Manchester United in the form of Federico Macheda.
The Italian starlet is yet to feature prominently in United’s first team plans, and could be tempted by the premise of more regular football.
Danny Welbeck featured greatly for Bruce’s side while on loan from the Red Devils last season.
