The Black Cats beat champions Manchester City last time out and have moved away from the bottom three in recent weeks, which has eased the pressure on Martin O’Neill.

Three wins out of their last four is something of a turnaround and a visit from Spurs at the Stadium of Light will be taken with confidence, rather than fear and trepidation.

Sunderland now have a bit of gusto in the camp and will come into this one in decent spirits, especially as they seem to have tightened things up at the back, with three clean sheets in their last four Premiership outings as their price of 11/4 to take another three points at home and continue their recovery is sure to see plenty of support.

They will need to be at their best to win this one though as Tottenham come to the North East on the back of a fantastic 4-0 win at Aston Villa on Boxing Day as Andre Villas-Boas side look to maintain a top four finish.

Gareth Bale was the star of the show with a hat-trick at Villa Park and he is proving himself to be one of the best Premier League players around at the moment as the Welshman, together with Jermaine Defoe and Moussa Dembele look to form a formidable attacking unit.

Those wishing to back another Spurs win can do alot worse than pick up the 11/10 currently available on the away win.

It should be a cracking encounter to kick-start the weekend.

The evening match then sees Arsenal and Newcastle United meet at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners didn’t play on Boxing Day of course, so could come into this one refreshed and eager to win. They have won their last three in the top flight for the first time this season, and sit just three points off the top four with a game in hand.

As for Newcastle, they put in a big effort against Manchester United on Wednesday afternoon, but went down 4-3 in the end.

Alan Pardew must now lift the spirits it the camp for this tough trip to North London, but if Arsenal are firing on all cylinders – it is going to be tough for them to stop the North Londoners and at 4/9 the Gunners are fancied to take all three points.

Vurnon Anita  and Jonas Gutierrez have added to a lengthy injury list while Arsene Wenger can recall Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky back to the side following a bout of sickness.

Both sides play some fantastic attacking football when at their best, so this could be 90 minutes of entertaining football between two teams at opposite ends of the table right now.
