Sunderland World Cup sensation defends Arab exit

Sunderland striker, Asamoah Gyan, insists that his loan switch to Al-Aid was not all about the money, and family reasons took precedence over his career in England.

The forward completed the loan deal earlier this month, leaving Black Cats manager, Steve Bruce, in somewhat of an offensive conundrum, with new signings Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won the only fit strikers to back up Nicklas Bendtner.

Gyan had an emphatic debut Premier League season last year after completing a £13m summer switch from Rennes, but defends his move away.

The Ghanain international stated: “I did not have any problem with Steve Bruce. He is a great coach and he has always supported me.”

He added: “You need to be happy – although I’m not saying I wasn’t happy at Sunderland or I wasn’t happy in the Premier League. I had to decide with my family and everything and they were alright with my decision so I had to just move.”
