Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers declared himself proud of his team’s effort against Chelsea yesterday, despite suffering a 4-1 loss.
The newly promoted Welsh side went to Stamford Bridge having not won there since 1925 and never really asserted a hold on the game. Goals from Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba and a brace from Ramires condemned Swansea to a loss, however Rodgers remained upbeat.
“There are no complaints. Chelsea are a world-class outfit and we understand that.” said the Swans boss.
He continued:
“We always knew it was going to be a difficult task.”
Rodgers added that it will not be isolated games against the top-four that will make or break Swansea’s season:
“I’m very proud of the players over the way they’ve opened up the season so far and, like I say, games like today won’t be defining our season.”
Swansea fans will be hoping their team can bounce back next week with a victory at home to Stoke.
