Swansea are flying though and will aim to stay in the top half of the table with three points in this one. They have already beaten Liverpool this season – in the Capital One Cup – but this fixture will still hold big significance for the home faithful.
The Spanish contingent in the Swans camp, Chico Flores, Michu and Pablo Hernandez have chipped in with vital goals already this season and it would be no surprise for one of them to be the difference today – at odds of 12/5 the Swans shout of value and have to be backed.
You then have Southampton and Newcastle going head to head from 3pm. The hosts picked up a cracking win at Queens Park Rangers last time out, while Newcastle are searching for their best form having lost back-to-back games.
Papiss Cisse should start alongside Demba Ba up front for the Toon, but the former looks a shadow of the player he was last season. Nigel Adkins has for once managed to create some confidence in the camp and with Newcastle misfiring at the moment the Saints look worthy of a bet at 11/8.
There are then two fascinating 4pm kick-offs. First of all, London rivals Tottenham and West Ham go head to head at White Hart Lane. The atmosphere is likely to be intense as these two battle it out for crucial Premier League points.
The Hammers are actually above Spurs in the table at the moment after taking to life in the top flight extremely well following promotion, but the hosts will hope their quality shines through from 4pm on Sunday. After a turbulent week for the club in Italy Villas Boas will be hopeful of a straight forward home win to appease the media and fans.
A big plus is the return from injury of Mousa Dembele in midfield, and with yet another clean sheet in the Europa League midweek, Spurs have to be taken to win at 4/6.
The biggest game of the weekend then takes place at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea – led by Rafa Benitez for the first time – take on Premier League Champions Manchester City. It really doesn’t get much bigger than this.
Chelsea have had a dip in form of late, but they are still well in the Premier League title race. If they can pick up the three points on Sunday, they go to within a point of City and Benitez can start to win over the home faithful. Those wishing to back Rafa to get off the mark with a win can get 13/8 on the home side.
City will look to take advantage of Chelsea after a traumatic week though. With the home fans not convinced by their latest managerial change, Roberto Mancini’s men will attack from the off and contribute to what should be a cracking match.
With Carlos Tevez and Aguero looking back to their best, the Citizens look to just about have the edge at a backable price of 7/4
A superb day of football is lined up, no doubt about that.
