At the moment, the Swedes are on seven points and sitting in second place of this group, with Ireland just one point behind them, so the winner of this one takes a massive step towards the World Cup in 2014.

Germany are the team leading the way in this group and in truth, these two know it is going to be tough to compete with them, so they could battle it out for a play-off place.

Looking at Sweden to begin with, they are sure to be delighted with their campaign so far as they have taken seven points from their opening three matches.

This of course included a 4-4 draw with Germany, where they came down from 4-0 to somehow rescue a point. The result showed they have a lot of character in the squad.

Erik Hamren will ask his men for a similar performance to the second half in Germany and if they manage to do that, this should be a comfortable evening for the hosts.

You never quite know what you are going to get with Sweden as they tend to turn on the style when nothing is expected of them. There is big expectation from the fans this time out and they have to come out on top in this encounter.

As ever, all eyes will be on Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he is the stand-out player for the Swedes. He has been in fine form for Paris-Saint Germain and as we know, can produce a moment of magic from nowhere. Ibrahimovic is available at 4/1 to score first.

As for Republic of Ireland, they have won in Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands in this qualifying campaign, but were thrashed 6-1 at home to Germany.

This is a massive game for Giovanni Trapattoni and if his men don’t take at least a point from it, they are going to struggle to reach Brazil 2014.

The away side did beat Poland at the Aviva Stadium in a friendly last month though, so confidence should be high.

Wes Hoolahan came on and scored in that match and it will be interesting to see how Trapattoni uses him this week. The Italian manager likes to play a certain formation that doesn’t really suit the Norwich City man, but his quality on the ball could be just what they need. He is at 7/1 to score at anytime on Friday.

Ireland need to remain solid at the back in this encounter and then see if they can hit Sweden on the counter attack. If they go gung-ho, then the home side have the players capable of tearing them apart.

If you don’t include Euro 2012, Ireland have now gone 19 games unbeaten on the road, so 6/1 looks to be cracking value for an away win.

It should be a very interesting 90 minutes of action and it all gets underway from 7.45pm on Friday.
