Szczesny: “Spurs are no better than Arsenal”

Szczesny does not believe Spurs are any better than ArsenalArsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has dismissed claims that Tottenham Hotspur latest victory against them and Arsenal’s poor start to the season shows that there has been a shift in power between the North London sides.

Arsenal’s start has been marred by defeats to Liverpool, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham and now they have the long term injury of Bacary Sagna to deal with. Szczesny though feels that it is unfair to judge a team after so few games and that Tottenham are by no means better than their North London counterparts.

“You cannot make such a statement after a couple of months after our poor start to the season or after just one game,” said the Polish goalkeeper. I think Spurs are a great club and they have shown today that they can play really good football, but are they better than Arsenal? I don’t really think so.”

However the young goalkeeper also contradicts his manager Arsene Wenger by claiming there is still hope that the side can gain enough points to spring back to have a chance at claiming the title.

“We have to improve our performances and then we just want to give ourselves the best chance of finishing high in the table, getting into the top four, and possibly winning the championship.”

“We have lost four games and Manchester United and Manchester City have lost none so we are behind at the moment but I believe every single team in the league will have a period somewhere where they play poorly.”

Szczesny also claims that the fans deserve better and that the side will look to bounce back after the international break.

“We had a poor start but I think we can kick off the season after the international break. Hopefully we can catch up. I hope we can do it as soon as possible. The fans deserve better.”
