Alcântara has only been involved in 14 appearances for the Barcelona side but is considered to be one of their up and coming talents. Barcelona though are very keen to land Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez and want the cash for Alcântara to be partly used in sealing the Chilean.
The youngster was an apparent target of Arsenal recently although with talks now going ahead it looks very unlikely that he shall be joining Arsene Wenger’s side with discussion between both clubs at a tentative stage. Arsenal have already brought in Carl Jenkinson this summer and are expected to make some big transfer announcements shortly. Chelsea meanwhile are thought to be hitting the market hard this summer with an offer on the table for Neymar and an offer rejected on Wednesday evening for Spurs’ attacking midfielder Luka Modric.
With Chelsea not showing any signs of being left out of the race for some of the biggest names, the acquisition of Alcântara looks to be just one piece of the Stamford Bridge puzzle beginning to fall into place.
