The ground has come perfect for the chances of Hollow Blue Sky in the Bathwick Tyres Yeovil Handicap Chase (Wincanton 3:50).
The 13/2 shot has run some of his best races when the mud had been flying and the torrential downpour to hit Wincanton over the last 24 hours was music to the ears of punters that are fans of the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained charge.
The official going is defined as good but with more rain predicted the afternoon on a track which can get wet very quickly, a going change looks an odds-on chance before the race is due to go off.
This lad is all about the chasing game.
His form over hurdles was very poor but since being switched to the larger obstacles, he’s come into his own, winning races at Carlisle and Huntingdon last season.
That effort at Huntingdon was a real eye opener and he’s stuck in my mind ever since that day. He looked the likely winner when moving into contention rounding the home bend and he pulled clear after leading two from home.
He backed that victory up with sound placed efforts at Haydock and Perth in April, on the latter occasion when chasing home Seebright, who looks a very interesting prospect at graded level for trainer Victor Dartnall.
He has gone well fresh so it was disappointing to see him flop when favourite at Perth in September but he can be forgiven that run on the basis of the quicker surface. Back on soft underfoot conditions today and with the talented Ryan Hatch on board, he can make a return to the winner’s enclosure in what looks a very winnable race.
