Tiger Woods putting lets him down at Frys.com open

Woods was let down by his putting during the first day of the Frys.com openTiger Woods has blamed his putting at the Frys.com open in California as the reason for finishing the first day at Two over Par and who risks missing the cut for a second consecutive time.

Woods decided to use this competition as his coompetitive comeback after yet more injuries and has yet to find his feet that could start bringing the golfer back up the rankings. Woods is already outside of the top 50 since he first started on the Professional circuit but he admits that whilst the putting was awful, other parts of his golf were good.

“That’s probably one of the worst putting rounds I’ve ever had, I can’t putt any worse than today. The rest of the game was not too bad,” said Woods, who was partnered by new caddie Joe LaCava for the first time.

“I hit some bad shots, yes. But also, I hit some really good ones. I’m very pleased at the shots I was hitting most of the day. But I got nothing out of the round on the greens. And whatever momentum I could have gotten by hitting good shots, you know, I just missed putts.”

Woods will need to bounce back with at least a 68 on Friday to stand a good chance of making the cut and for the golfer to stand any chance of winning his first competition since the 2009 Australian Masters.

Brandon Steele, Briny Baird, Garrett Willis and Matt Bettencourt all share the lead after the first round after finishing on 67 to land scores of -4.
