Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes may leave the club during the upcoming January transfer window.
The keeper has slipped behind Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini in the competition for a starting place and Redknapp admitted that it is unlikely that many opportunities will come his way this season.
The Spurs boss believes that Gomes may want to leave in search of first team football as he tries to secure a place in the Brazil national side.
“He wants to play at the World Cup with Brazil, so it’s going to be a problem. We’ll wait until the next window and see where that takes us.” said Redknapp.
However, Redknapp stressed that he still has confidence in the keeper’s ability, despite the fact that many see him as a liability after the numerous mistakes he made last season:
“He has done nothing wrong. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper and a great pro. I just went with Carlo in Greece and he was magnificent.”
The Spurs boss added that he was very happy with the keepers that he has at his disposal:
“I’m very lucky I have three top goalkeepers here and it’s unlucky for the two not in the team. They would get in other teams, for sure.”
