Tottenham boss reveals £40m talisman bid

In the penultimate hours of a tense transfer deadline day, Harry Redknapp revealed how his club were subject to £40m bid from Chelsea, as they looked to prise Luka Modric away from White Hart Lane in a last gasp attempt.

The manager was on his way out of Spurs Lodge, telling of his glee at signing Scott Parker in what was his only purchase of the day, as well as how busy the day had been, and his plans for along nap.

The offer put on the table by Chelsea is now said to involve an initial payment of £30m with Brazilian defender, Alex, going in the opposite direction.

Redknapp distanced himself from any of the dealings, saying it was mostly up to others what had gone on in the last day of the transfer window, but is confident the his star playmaker will get his head down and do a good job for Spurs from now on.
