Tottenham Hotspur join Liverpool and Arsenal as interest increases for Bundesliga misfit

Published

Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as likely candidates for Bundesliga playmaker Diego with the Brazilian likely to be sold on this summer due to his current issues with club Wolfsburg.

The midfielder has once again been fined for his behaviour, this time walking out of the team hotel for not being picked for the clubs last game of the season. Although discussions between Diego and the management are to be held it is likely that he shall be offloaded for a cut price £5m this summer.

The price has alerted the liked of Liverpool and Arsenal, however Tottenham Hotspur would also be interested in the bargain playmaker and back up in the role Rafael van der Vaart is required with the Dutchman’s fitness a big question. Tottenham have confirmed that they will need to sell before they can buy this summer and with players such as Robbie Keane and Wilson Palacios likely to be on their way out, that will raise more than enough than the £5m Wolfsburg are looking for.

The player is one of those that is not out of control but simply has had a rough time of late and it is believed that a new location and a new challenge for the 26 year old could well be tempting despite admitting recently that he may choose to stay in Germany. Olympiacos are also said to be interested in his services.

Arsenal star heavily linked with a move to AC Milan following axe from the squad

Published

on

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants AC Milan following his outburst and subsequent loss of captaincy.

The Swiss international was substituted in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace which the Arsenal fans sarcastically cheered for, thus prompting a reaction from Xhaka.

The midfielder cupped his ears whilst walking off before shouting swear words at the section of fans who were booing and jeering him.

He prompted to throw the captain’s armband off and quickly stormed into the tunnel, which resulted in a huge outrage on social media from the fans of the club.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery was thus forced to relinquish Xhaka’s captaincy duties which were then given to star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Since the incident at the Emirates, the 27-year-old has yet to feature for the Gunners with even Emery suggesting that he is not sure whether the captain of the Swiss national team will play for the club again.

The bookies have the odds of Xhaka staying at 4/6 till the end of the season whereas he is 11/10 to leave in the January transfer window.

The favourites to sign the enigmatic midfielder are AC Milan, who have Ivan Gazidis as their executive. Gazidis was the chief executive at Arsenal for nearly 10 years and was influential in bringing Xhaka to the Emirates.

Odds for Granit Xhaka’s Next Club

4/1- AC Milan

10/1- Borussia Monchengladbach

11/1- Newcastle

12/1- Atletico Madrid

14/1- Inter Milan

The fallen Italian giants are still in somewhat of a turmoil despite finishing fifth in Serie A last season, their best finish in 6 years.

They failed to qualify for the Champions League and thus the then-manager Gennaro Gattuso resigned from his post.

Gazidis appointed Marco Giampaolo but the Italian coach got sacked in early October having just been in charge for 7 games.

Stefano Pioli was immediately announced as his successor but has only won one out of the five games he has been at the helm for.

Therefore, I Rossoneri currently sit in 14th place after 12 games, 11 points adrift of 4th place Atalanta which is an automatic qualification for the Champions League.

It is reported that Xhaka is already house-hunting in Milan in a bid to put his difficult time at Arsenal behind him.

A move away from Arsenal would mark the end of a tough relationship for both parties, as when Xhaka arrived from Monchengladbach for £35m, he was earmarked as a future great midfielder.

However, he has failed to live up to the potential he showed in the Bundesliga as his performances have often left fans wanting more.

Arsenal will NOT sack manager Unai Emery despite worst start in 37 years

Published

on

Arsenal are reportedly going to back manager Unai Emery 100% and will not give him the boot, despite the Gunners’ worst start to a top-flight season since 1982.

This comes following a bitterly disappointing 2-0 defeat to top-four rivals Leicester City on Saturday, which helped confirm Arsenal’s terrible start even further.

The Gunners currently sit in 6th place of the Premier League table, having only amassed 17 points in 12 games and have only won four out of those games.

Unai Emery’s side have benefited from the fact that their rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have had worse starts than them.

The Spanish coach is one of the favourites to be the next manager to be sacked, with the bookies’ odds at 2/1 – only Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhutl has shorted odds of being sacked.

With that being said, it is reported that Arsenal’s board of directors are happy with the former Paris Saint-Germain manager and feel that results will turn around under his leadership.

The Gunners’ hierarchy viewed the fixture against Leicester a very competitive one in which Emery’s men showed positive signs of improvement.

The directors, which includes the likes of owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh as well as head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu, notice the fans displeasure in Arsenal’s performances under Emery and are vary of the talk surrounding the Spaniard.

However, they will not act and make decisions based on the noise surrounding the coach and the performances of the team.

The Gunners have been in terrible form over the last five games in all competitions- three draws and two losses.

The draws came against considerable weaker opponents in Vitoria, Wolves and Crystal Palace, whereas their losses were against better opposition in Leicester and Liverpool.

Yet, Liverpool featured a heavily inexperienced line-up as it was a round of 16 Carabao Cup tie in which Jurgen Klopp’s men managed to steal a win on a penalty shoot-out.

Emery signed with Arsenal ahead of the start of the 2018-19 season and took over the legendary Arsene Wenger.

The 48-year-old signed a three-year deal and stated that he preferred to win 5-4 rather 1-0 in a bid to carry on the legacy that his predecessor left.

However, with a full season already under the belt as well as ample backing in the summer transfer window, the former Sevilla coach has yet to implement a clear style of play.

Reports have come out suggesting that Emery cannot translate his ideas to his players possibly due to the fact that English is a foreign language for him.

Tension with the highest earner at the club and one of the star players in Mesut Ozil, as well as the huge substitution affair with Granit Xhaka, has added huge pressure on Emery’s shoulders.

Fans seem divided on Emery’s ability to lead and the Spaniard will have to turn around the results and performances in order to ease the pressure off.

Arsenal after another Lille forward?

Published

on

Moussa Sow is yet another Lille forward who seems to have attracted the interest of ArsenalReports are claiming that Arsenal maybe tempted into making a second transfer trip to Lille in an effort to lure Moussa Sow to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners already took Gervinho from the Stade Lille-Metropole in the summer which would make Sow the second striker that they have taken from the Ligue 1 champions within a year.

The Senegalese international isn’t the sort of player that the North London side would usually go for at the age of 25 but they could be discovering that youth isn’t everything, as they look to return to the dominant side they were a decade ago.

Sow boasts a fantastic goalscoring record with Lille, scoring 28 times in 45 appearances since his 2010 move from Rennes.

Arsenal are currently leaving striking duties almost totally up to Robin van Persie in recent months with Gervinho, Andrey Arshavin and Theo Walcott pitching in as well.

The Dutchman is conflicted however and is currently stalling on his contract talks, not wanting to commit to the club before seeing how events pan out.

Gervinho is taking his time to settle into English football and Sow could provide ample support to van Persie, relieving some of the pressure on the captain’s shoulders.

It’s unknown how much Sow would cost after he moved to Lille on a free transfer last year, but it would surely be in excess of £15m.
