Tottenham Hotspur are winning the battle to keep hold of Croatian midfielder Luka Modric with Chelsea apparently becoming frustrated at the lack of movement by the 25 year old.
The Stamford Bridge hierarchy had expected Modric to have handed in a transfer request by now, signalling the end of his career at White Hart Lane and forcing a move to Chelsea. However, since his comments whilst on holiday where he admitted to wanting to join the West London side there has been no movement or sound from his corner.
With frustration at Chelsea now beginning to build up they have taken the step to begin looking seriously for other replacements and are considering a move for Porto’s Moutinho, the playmaker does have a large release clause in his contract though and Chelsea will keep their options open.
Tottenham meanwhile will keep their shop doors firmly closed regardless of Modric’s public desire to play elsewhere with talks between the player and manager Harry Redknapp expected when he returns from leave.
