Tottenham lining up CSKA swoop

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly weighing up a bid for CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia after turning down the chance to sign him last summer.

The Ivory Coast international  was one of the names on Redknapp’s list in the last transfer window as he sought to bring a striker into White Hart Lane eventually opting to sign Emmanuel Adebayor on loan. His interest in the 24-year-old has never wavered and another prolific season in the Russian Premier League has convinced him he is ready for the Premier League.

23 goals in 30 games has made Doumbia hot property in Europe with Arsenal, Inter Milan and Manchester United all being credited with an interest in him. However CSKA moved to ward off any potential suitors by placing a £30 million price tag on his head but Spurs will be hoping to negotiate that down with out-of-favour Roman Pavlyuchenko likely to be used as a makeweight in any deal.

Redknapp is keen to boost his attacking options for the second half of the season as Spurs continue to challenge for Premier League glory with their win over Everton on Wednesday putting them just three points behind leaders Manchester City. The 64-year-old still believes he needs another forward to take the goal scoring burden off the shoulders of Adebayor.

The on-loan Manchester City hit man has plugged away up front on his own for much of the campaign but will head back to the Etihad Stadium once his his deal ends in May with Spurs unable to afford his astronomical wages. That will leave only Jermaine Defoe and Pavlyuchenko for Redknapp to choose from and he has now set his sights on the CSKA striker to fill that void.
