Tottenham manager Redknapp regrets missing out on Suarez

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he has been left rueing a missed opportunity, in the form of Liverpool’s Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez.

The tricky attacker was a Spurs target back in January, but the deal failed to materialise and Suarez joined Liverpool instead.

Commenting on Suarez’s excellent form this season ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, Redknapp admitted that Spurs had been very interested in the ace: “We looked at Suarez,” “That was a player who we probably should have took, looking back on it now.”

He continued:

“The fee was 30-odd million and that’s a lot of money and we thought he played a bit like Rafael Van der Vaart as well.”

The Spurs boss added:

“We were looking for a target man but I have seen him play up on his own and he can do that. He can play anywhere. He can do anything. He is a top-class, fantastic player.”
