Tottenham Hotspur mulling over a move for Lassana Diarra after Real Madrid told the midfielder he could leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer the Metro reports.
The former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth man has struggled to nail down a regular starting role in Spain since arriving for £20 million in January 2009 and has recently seen talks over a new contract breakdown.
Diarra has 12-months remaining on his current deal and was discussing a two-year extension with the Spanish champions before negotiations broke down reportedly due to his hefty wage demands.
Madrid have now told the 27-year-old France international he can leave and have already started to offer him around several European clubs, with Spartak Moscow and Fenerbache emerging as favourites to land his signature.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is said to be a huge admirer of Diarra’s and is considering bringing him to White Hart Lane as he looks to shape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
With Luka Modric set to leave North London and Tom Huddlestone prone to injury Villas-Boas is keen to add defensive minded midfielder to his ranks as he targets six new signings after being handed a £40 million budget.
It’s thought Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho would be willing to sell the Frenchman for around £4m with the player set to decide on his future next week.
Everton and Queens Park Rangers are rumoured to hold an interest in signing Diarra, whilst Newcastle United have been linked with a loan bid although it’s unlikely Madrid would accept that with a short time left on his deal.
