Tottenham poised to hand Premier League return to international superstar

In a shock move that few would have seen coming, it seems Arjen Robben could make a sensational return to the Premier League after it emerged that Bayern Munich may be willing to sell the star winger, with Tottenham popping up as potential candidates for his signature.

It seems that the Bundesliga giants have grown increasingly impatient with the injury-prone Dutchman and may finally be ready to let the winger go after seemingly giving up on the cause of keeping the wideman fit.

Since completing a transfer from Real Madrid in 2009, the 27 year-old has made only 66 appearances for the Munich outfit after being restricted by numerous back, knee and muscle injuries over the past three years.

Having said that, Robben has still showed his potential for great performances when he is healthy after scoring 12 league goals in the 2010-11 season, depute making only 14 appearances.

Harry Redknapp said last month that there was a strong possibility that Spurs could make a ‘major signing’ in the January transfer window as his side look to push their way into becoming a constant staple in the Premier League’s top four.

Robben is a proven talent in the English top flight after spending three seasons at Stamford Bridge, two of which yielded success as champions of the Premier League.

It’s evident that Robben’s signature has the potential for risk given his past on the injury table, however if the North London outfit were able to keep the superstar fit, there’s no argument that his exploits on the pitch could make or break seasons on their own.

Bayern Munich were understood to be in the market for the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach winger, Marco Reus, before it became apparent that the youngster had agreed to sign for Boussia Dortmund this summer.

However, this tells us that the German giants are in the market for a wide player and could lead some to think they are looking to cash in on their injury-prone star, rather than see him spend any more time on the sidelines.

Money for funds has proven a stumbling block for Spurs in the past, but if they were to free up the £28m necessary to sign Robben, it would certainly fulfil the prophecy of a ‘major signing’ that Redknapp made in December.
