Tottenham poised to make move for Bundesliga stopper

News is emerging from numerous media outlets that Beyer Leverkusen goalkeeper René Adler is the latest asset to hit the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

Sources from the club claim that Heurelho Gomes could be on his way out of the club in the search for first team football after falling behind summer signing Brad Friedel in the pecking order.

The 40 year-old has been in magnificent form for the North London outfit this season, however his age can only mean that his future at the club is numbered.

In response, Spurs have been linked with numerous ‘keeper signings in recent weeks and will be expected to sign an immediate replacement for Gomes should the Brazilian head for the exit.

Adler’s signature would depend on his willingness to compete for a starting berth with the former United States international but if he was willing to bide his time, he could play a part in Tottenham’s ascension.

The German international has had a hard time in recovering from a long-term knee injury and is yet to feature for Werkself this season, only returning to fitness this month.

However, the comeback has not meant a return to first-team action as 19 year-old Bernd Leno has assumed the role in the side’s first XI.

The youngster penned a six-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit in November and is seemingly the preferred choice at the BayArena.

This will undoubtedly leave Adler more open to a move away from the side and the meteoric rise of Harry Redknapp’s Spurs may prove a tempting destination.

It’s more than likely that Adler will leave Leverkusen when his contract runs out in the summer, however if Redknapp feels the necessity to purchase a Gomes replacement, a £5m offer may be enough to lure the goalkeeper away form Germany.
