In an effort to preserve a highly successful first half to the season, Tottenham are being linked with a move for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, Milan Badelj, regardless of whether or not Luka Modric leaves the club in January.
Zagreb pulled Badelj up through their youth ranks after the departure of Modric to the Premier League as he showed the promise of being a like-for-like replacement.
The midfielder showed early promise and after the departure of compatriot Modric to Tottenham Hotspur, the youngster was swiftly inserted into the side’s first team plans.
Since then, the playmaker has gone on to make over 150 appearances for the Croatian outfit and justified his comparison with the Spurs talisman.
However, Harry Redknapp is ready for his side to go back to the European side once again in the hopes poaching on of their up-and-coming starlets.
Since 2010, Badelj has also featured for the Croatian national side alongside Luka Modric; a partnership Redknapp is hoping to replicate on a club basis.
The 22 year-old playmaker carries a price-tag of around £9m and would have the unenviable burden of living up to his comparison if he were to play with Modric on a weekly basis.
Although Zagreb will not want to part with their young talent this month, like so many times before, they may have no choice if the right offer is made.
