Tottenham set to go in for duo of South American starlets

Abel Hernandez is just one South American under the Tottenham radarSources are suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur could be ready to up their stakes in the January transfer window by following up their interest in Leandro Damiao and Abel Hernandez.

Damiao has been linked with a White Hart Lane switch for the past two transfer windows but so far a move has failed to materialise thus far.

Tottenham are currently relying on Jermain Defoe and on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor to do all their heavy lifting, with Rafael Van der Vaart also scoring goals where necessary.

Roman Pavlyuchenko could be heading for the Spurs exit as he continues to sit on the sidelines just as Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane were before their moves away from the side.

However, the North London side are looking to change that now and bring in the Internacional striker when the January transfer window opens.

The 22 year-old has netted 20 goals in 47 appearances for O Clube de Povo and earned himself a call-up to the Brazilian national side in March following his sparkling form in the Brazilian domestic league.

Hernandez presents a less prolific finisher, but is tested on the more competitive plains of Serie A, where he has scored 12 goals in 54 times for Palermo.

The 21 year-old has also starred eight times for the Uruguayan national team but is yet to score in a competitive game.

Damiao’s fee has escalated over the past six months and after a £15m fee was being discussed in January, Spurs may have to pay closer the £20m mark now.

Hernandez on the other hand will be a more financially viable option, being thought to be worth between £12-15m.
