Tottenham Hotspur has snapped up both Lassana Diarra and Emmanuel Adebayor and are hoping to have completed personal terms so they can appear at White Hart Lane for their opening Europa League game against Hearts on August 25th.
Both players had been linked with the club for some time with the main barrier involved being that of wages however with Real Madrid having reduced their asking fee for Diarra closer to £15m, and Manchester City agreeing to pay the majority of Adebayor’s monthly wages as part of a season’s loan deal, both additions are likely to boost Tottenham’s chances of reaching the top four.
The best part of this double swoop is that the club do not necessarily need to offload Luka Modric to finance it with enough fringe players already sold – and a few more to go – to be able to push the deals through.
With Manchester City looking likely to keep hold of Carlos Tevez now, they are aware they no longer really require Adebayor but understand there are not many teams out there that can either afford the transfer fee, and certainly not his wages rumoured to around £500,000 a month.
