Real Madrid have offered Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham the chance to buy Lassana Diarra, but only if the North London club give them first option on Gareth Bale in two years’ time.
The Welshman has attracted attention from numerous top European outfits since having an impressive start to last season, and while they aren’t expected to make a move soon, the Spanish giants have made their intentions of making a move for Bale in the future very clear.
Tottenham have put their not-for-sale stamp on top players such as Bale and Luka Modric this summer, but with transfer funds limited and squad depth an issue, a decision has to be made.
Diarra worked under Redknapp during his time at Portsmouth, and while a defensive midfielder may not be the first thing on the manager’s wanted list, it could be necessary with Tom Huddlestone and Wilson Palacios both rumoured to be leaving White Hart Lane.
The news comes swiftly after Spanish sources claimed that wing target, Juan Mata, would not be keen on a move to Spurs.
