Toure urges Van Persie to join Manchester City

Kolo Toure believes Robin Van Persie could help Manchester City realise their dream of winning the Champions League should he opt for a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Van Persie announced earlier this week that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract at Arsenal on Wednesday fuelling speculation that he would be sold despite having one year still remaining on his existing deal.

City have been linked with the Holland forward for much of the summer and could now make their move as Roberto Mancini looks to bolster his attacking lineup ahead of the new season.

Despite having Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez to choose from Mancini believes Van Persie is the man to fire his Premier League title winning side to Champions League glory.

And having played with the 28-year-old at the Emirates Stadium, Toure shares his managers sentiments believing his former teammate could be the missing ingredient for City in their quest to triumph in Europe’s elite club competition.

“Robin is a top player. I’ve played with him, I know him and he’s a great man,” the centre-back is reported as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“At City we have great players and the club does what it wants in transfers.

“But for me, if Robin comes it’s great because I know what he can do.

“You have to build your squad every year to do better; to win the Champions League is very difficult as we have seen.”

Van Persie certainly won’t be short of suitors should he leave the Gunners with reports suggesting he wants his exit tied up before the club embarks on his tour of Asia on July 24.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain have all been credited it an interest whilst AC Milan and Barcelona are thought to be contemplating whether to join the race for his signature.
