Manchester United keeper David de Gea has insisted manager Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t drop him from the side after their recent win against Sunderland.
The £17-million summer signing from Atletico Madrid was replaced between the sticks by Anders Lindegaard for the game against the Black Cats with the Danish stopper keeping a clean sheet.
De Gea maintained he was merely being rested after claims that Ferguson had axed him from the side after the 21-year-old suffered an indifferent start to life at Old Trafford.
He admits the Scot told him that he would be rested and that playing in England has seen him learn more in a summer than he did during his entire career in Spain.
He said: “I didn’t play in the past weekend but Ferguson told me it was just so I could rest. He’s an incredible coach and without doubt the best in the world,”
“What I have learned since the summer in England is more than most of my professional career in Spain.
“It is another world in all of the concepts.”
The Spaniard has found his form being brought under close scrutiny ever since he arrived in Manchester although his performances have gradually improved in recent weeks.
