Manchester United have offered to treble striker Danny Wellbeck’s wage as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to tie his star players down to long-term deals at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old has been in dynamic goalscoring form for the Red Devil’s so far this season netting finding the back of the net five times in as many starts.
Ferguson is keen to put him in line with other senior stars and discussions have already taken place over a new five-year deal that could see his wage rise from £15,000-per-week to £50,000.
United want to get their young stars signed on for the long term as Ferguson continues to build a new dynasty at Old Trafford and sources close to Wellbeck have indicated he is eager to remain at the club after usurping Dimitar Berbatov in the pecking order.
Despite the United’s desperation for him to commit his future to the club instead of letting the situation linger, the pacey striker is in no rush to sign a new deal with 18-months left on his existing contract.
The Premier League champions have already agreed new deals with several young stars already this term with Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez signing on for the next five years whilst Tom Cleverley has penned a four-year deal and are now hoping Wellbeck will follow suit.
