Manchester United defender, Phil Jones, has admitted that even he is surprised at just how big a role he has played for the Red Devils in the early season fixtures.
The 19 year-old has played a part in every Premier League game this season, including an impressive three starts out of four.
Jones completed a £20m switch to Old Trafford earlier in the summer after amking the move from Blackburn Rovers.
The defender was fortunate in a way that starters, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, both suffered injuries in the league’s opening fixture, allowing him more chance of a starting place.
The stopper stated: “When you get your chance you have to take it. Hopefully I have shown the manager what I can do. I definitely feel I have improved since joining United. How quickly they move the ball is different class.”
The teenager played a key role in the 5-0 demolition of Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, and is hoping to reach new heights and play in the Champions League fixture against Benfica on Tuesday.
The England Under-21 international added: “The Champions League is a great competition for me to do that. Hopefully if I get selected I will prove that I am up to the task.”
