US Open Golf Odds : Ladbrokes paying 6 places each way

The US Open gets underway from the Olympic Club in San Francisco, and as has been the pattern in 2012 so far, Tiger Woods is the favourite to emerge victorious.

Don’t forget that before you make your bet, Ladbrokes have announced that they are paying 6 places each way, (one place more than the normal 5) offered by the bookies, and will throw in free bets worth £50 – so make sure you get on board fast.

The American has been back to near his best this year and everybody will be watching every shot he plays with interest. Woods is without doubt the one to beat and if you finish ahead of him, you are going to be in with a good chance.

Luke Donald is a man being backed by many though and in lots of ways, the course in San Francisco suits his style of play more than any other. Then, when you consider the form he has been in, the World No.1 is clearly a major contender.

As far as the betting is concerned, Woods is 8/1, while Donald can be backed at 12/1. These are the two favourites at this stage and all eyes will be on them come the start on Thursday.

You then have many of the usual suspects when it comes to a major tournament in the shape of Lee Westwood – who is yet to win a major – Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson.

The most interesting one in this list, perhaps because you know exactly what to expect from Westwood and Mickelson, is defending Champion McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman was in incredible form this time last year and deservedly became US Open Champion. The world of golf watched him dominate the field and it really was quite the performance.

Twelve months on though, things aren’t going quite so smoothly. The 23-year-old missed three straight cuts before a 7th placed finish in his last tournament, so he needs to raise his game if he is to be in contention.

He definitely represents good value at 20/1 though and if he gets off to a good start, there could be no stopping him. Well, unless a certain Mr Woods turns up with his best game of course.

It should be a fantastic tournament, so get ready for four days of world-class golf.
