Valladolid keeper Jaime claims Tottenham interest

Valladolid goalkeeper Jaime claims Tottenham Hotspur want to sign him this summer as Andre Villas-Boas steps up his search for a new number one.

The new Spurs boss has made signing a new shot-stopper with 41-year-old Brad Friedel coming into the last season of his career and has been linked with France international Hugo Lloris.

Despite Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas stating no bids have been received reports suggest Villas-Boas had a £12 million offer rejected for the 25-year-old and is said to be preparing a fresh £13m proposal.

But, Jaime has now declared that the Portuguese tactician wants to bring him to White Hart Lane and would be interested in a switch should an approach be made.

He told Sky Sports: “That is true. Spurs and other clubs are interested.

“The situation is in the hands of my agent and Valladolid. I am happy here but it is normal to desire to improve as a professional.”

The 31-year-old Valladolid to promotion to the Primera Liga last season via the Segunda Division play-offs and has plenty of experience to offer having started his career with Spanish club Valdepenas back in 1998

Jaime is said to have impressed Spurs with his form last season but Sporting director Alberto Marcos insisted no concrete bids have been received for the keeper.

He said: “We still do not have a formal proposition on the table.”

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas has told Steven Pienaar he won’t stand in his way as the South African midfielder hopes to make his return to Everton permanent following his loan-spell last term.

Pienaar moved back to Goodison Park on loan just 12-months after leaving for North London but found first team opportunities hard to come by under former boss Harry Redknapp.

Both clubs have held “constructive” discussions and the deal should be finalised before the new Premier League campaign kicks off in August.
