Aston Villa are mulling over whether to make a move for Scott Dann with boss Alex McLeish keen to sign the Blackburn defender before the transfer deadline.
Rumours that Dann want’s to leave Ewood Park and gathering pace with the former Birmingham defender reportedly unhappy that he is fighting another relegation battle. He could now seek a return to the Midlands with Villa ready to step up their interest in him despite the 24-year-old only joining Blackburn in the summer.
McLeish is keen to strengthen a back four that has leaked 27 goals this season and is keen to be reunited with Dann after signing him whilst manager at St Andrews. That could spell the end for James Collins at Villa Park who has been linked with a move to Sunderland in recent weeks.
The 28-year-old has been first team regular for much of the campaign but it’s thought McLeish is prepared to dispense with his services and could possibly offer the Welsh international as part of any deal to bring Dann to the club.
Rovers chief Steve Kean, who is also set to lose captain Christopher Samba this month, would loathe to see defender leave having signed him on deadline day in August. However the prospect of cash-plus-player deal involving Collins could turn Kean’s head as it would boost the clubs transfer coffers and provide an experienced replacement.
With only a fortnight left before the window closes Villa will have to move swiftly if they are to tie up a deal for Dann and it’s likely they have to pay considerably more the £6 million Blackburn splashed out on him last year.
