Aston Villa are back in the running to sign Charles N’Zogbia, after submitting an improved £9.5m bid for the Wigan winger.
The Villans had a £9m offer rejected last week and were expected to return with an improved offer for the disgruntled N’Zogbia.
Villa manager, Alex McLeish apparently attempted to sign the Frenchman while at Birmingham last summer, and after offloading Ashley Young and Stewart Downing to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, has transfer funds available.
Wigan have been adamant that they will not let N’Zogbia go for less than £10m, but with only a year left on his contract, the Latics are wary of losing the winger on a free next year.
Aston Villa will be desperate to fill the wing positions, with the losses of England internationals Young and Downing, effectively removing their first choice widemen.
After agreeing terms, N’Zogbia will have to complete a medical before sealing his move away from the DW Stadium.
