Sources close to Chelsea FC have claimed that manager to be Villas-Boas could bring with him one of his major stars when he arrive at Stamford Bridge this week but it could cost Chelsea a cool £25m.
Radamel Falcao has scored 41 league goals in 50 appearances for Porto since arriving in 2009 and has netted seven times in 28 appearances for his country, Colombia, since 2007. At 25 years old it is believed he may be ready for a new challenge and although those at Porto will not be pleased to see one of their main strikers leave the club a few weeks after losing the man who has taken them to a treble in the 2010/2011 season, winning the Portuguese Liga, the Portuguese Supercup and the UEFA Europa League.
Sources also suggest that whilst Chelsea are in no real need for a striker, the arrival of Falcao could spell the end for one of two strikers with Nicholas Anelka the likely favourite to move on with Daniel Sturridge possibly on his way out with little chance of the youngster getting into the first eleven.
Didier Drogba has also been linked with a move away although Chelsea has publicy quoted him as being the “mainstay of Chelsea” and that he will not be going anywhere this summer. Although Chelsea’s priority is that of a few attack minded midfielders, the chance to sign one of Europe’s goal poachers who worked so well with Villas-Boas at Porto may be too good to turn down.
One thing is for certain, at least one of Chelsea’s top strikers will be out of Stamford Bridge on the search for first team football very soon.
