Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney has admitted that he was left rather disappointed at full time following his team’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at the Villa Park.
Louis van Gaal’s men headed into the encounter in Midlands on the back of a six-game winning streak and were touted favorites to stretch the run. However, the Red Devils were forced to come from behind after Christian Benteke had handed the home side a shock lead in the first half.
Radamel Falcao equalized with a bullet header in the second half and Gabby Agbonlahor’s red card with just 25 minutes left gave the English giants a great chance to score a winning goal. However, Rooney and co failed to make most of their chances and had to settle for a solitary point for all their efforts.
While talking to MU TV, Rooney said that the result is simply disappointing for his side and added that with ten men down, onus was on his team to go on and win the game.
“We were pushing them and we had good possession, but just couldn’t get a breakthrough. We’re paying the price for that now. It’s important not to lose the game, but we thought we’d done enough to win. We should have got three points, so we’re a bit disappointed and frustrated.”
Manchester United now host Newcastle United in their next league game and would be looking to make sure that the recent draw is just a minor bump towards what has been quite a revival in recent weeks.
