Weekend Roundup as Chelsea draw with Liverpool and Nolan haunts old club

The Premier League has seen lots of tight games in recent weeks and this weekend was no different, with no games won by more than a one goal margin. This is an extremely competitive league and with matches tough to call, it is fascinating to see how things pan out.

Looking back at Saturday to begin with, it began with six matches getting underway at 3pm. One of the most entertaining of these was a six goal thriller at the Emirates as Arsenal and Fulham shared the points.

The Gunners led 2-0 before Fulham turned the game on its head with three goals in less than half an hour. Oliver Giroud grabbed his second goal of the afternoon to rescue a point, but it was still a frustrating match for the home side.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Everton and Stoke City as they beat Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers respectively. For QPR, it is now 11 games without a win and only four points as they sit rock bottom of the table.

Reading are still without a win too as they played out a 0-0 draw at home to Norwich City. It was a game lacking in quality as Brian McDermott’s men – who had scored nine goals in their last three games – drew a blank.

Southampton and Swansea also drew at St Marys Stadium, while West Brom continued their fantastic form with a 2-1 win at Wigan.

The 5.30pm game was arguably the best of Saturday though. Aston Villa stormed to a 2-0 lead over Manchester United, before Javier Hernandez scored twice to help the Red Devils turn things around for a dramatic 3-2 win.

Moving onto Sunday, things got underway with a lunch-time kick-off between Manchester City and Tottenham. Despite Spurs taking the lead, the Premier League Champions bounced back in the second-half with goals from Sergio Aguero and Eden Dzeko.

West Ham then produced a fantastic away display to win 1-0 at Newcastle. The Hammers are now 6th in the table, a remarkable achievement in their first season back in the top flight.

Finally for this weekend, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool. John Terry opened the scoring for the hosts before Luis Suarez equalised in the second-half.

All in all, it was an entertaining weekend and a particularly successful one for the two Manchester clubs.
